Newcroft has the Golden Ticket.

Newcroft Primary Academy Library with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory graphic

When Newcroft Primary Academy wanted a Roald Dahl-themed makeover of their library, it didn’t take us long to work out what to do.

Storyboard the space

Our first task was to determine how best to present multiple stories within the space. We began by sketching storyboards that highlighted key moments from several well-loved tales. After reviewing these with the client, we collaborated to decide which scenes would be featured on each wall. With a clear direction in place, we moved on to creating custom illustrations that would capture the fun and energy of the books.

Plan the materials

We decided on a mix of printed wallpaper, vinyl graphics, and flat-cut graphics to add depth and dimension to the wall art. To further enhance the visual impact, we suspended simple 3D books from the ceiling, bringing an extra layer of dynamism and energy to the space. This project was all about maximising every creative opportunity to fully meet and exceed the brief.

Sweat the Details

Our goal was to fit a lot into a relatively small space, which presented several challenges. The space itself had awkward features, including irregularly shaped walls, built-in bookcases, and a large, unsightly server cabinet. During the design phase, we explored creative solutions to integrate these obstacles seamlessly into the overall aesthetic. One standout example is the bulky server cabinet, which we cleverly disguised as the infamous Wonkavision from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, transforming an eyesore into a fun, story-driven element.

Each wall became a snapshot of a different story, brought to life with stunning hand-illustrated details and a vibrant colour scheme. This approach gave each wall its own unique identity while maintaining a cohesive and visually engaging space.

Crafted
With Love

Our in-house illustrator, Paul, had enormous fun coming up with our interpretations of the classic characters we were so lucky to grow up with; characters that we hope this generation also grow to love and remember as fondly as we all do.

It was a fun challenge to decide which references should be included to tell each story.
