We worked our magic to provide a complete suite of improved school signs for newly awarded ‘Oustanding’ primary school in London on time and on budget.

Brief

Warren junior School is an Outstanding school now with a teaching school status, it also has an executive Headteacher who had recently been awarded an OBE for services to education. The brief was to replace a fifteen-year-old set of external school signs and portray the school in the light of their recent achievements with a feel of excellence.

Wayfinding

From our initial site visit, two main issues were apparent. Firstly, the school had four entrances but had no clear way of navigating visitors from each of them to the main reception, leading to a poor first impression as stakeholders often were confused about where to go.  Secondly, the existing signage was displaying a wide range of historic school crests, which was not in keeping with its excellent reputation.

The concept presented to the school addressed these two issues. A school wayfinding plan showed where to place signs around their school for the best results within their budget. Signage was designed to be clear, well-proportioned and with space for the information to be visible at the correct distance. Finally, of course, we developed the school brand and ensured that there was a consistent approach to every sign.

The Impact

The crisp, clean suite of new signs have enhanced the visitor experience with improved wayfinding and navigation around the school.  The new school signs also promote an organisation of teaching excellence with a consistent, professional design and arrangement across the site, greatly improving first impressions of all visitors to the school.

The main concept offered to the school had two main areas, A school wayfinding plan was proposed of where and how to place signs for their school site; Signage with clarity and brevity were designed by using chunky square post signs with well proportioned white space around sign information. We also updated the signs with the current brand and developed the brand further with additional graphic elements to go alongside the School crest.
