Ofsted impressed by new school signage and displays
The school got in touch after a chance meeting between the headteacher and a school that we had recently worked in as they had identified that their own site looked tired. The school sits on the busy A34 into Birmingham and there is little that identifies them as a school to passers-by.
The head expressed that he wanted to promote their new school values and to increase the awareness of the school to the local community as an outstanding place of learning.
After an initial meeting and site-walk we were able to identify some areas that the school could use to promote their presence. Our initial presentation focused on these areas with a bold, clean designs that would have maximum impact for all.
We worked with the school to develop an overall scheme that included large external banners, large lettering to key walls, a large internal display in reception and some new entrance signs to help direct visitors to the right car parks. We developed the design to include graphic elements of the historic crest without compromising any of the school’s vision for the future.
As part of this project we helped to bring the school identity up to date and provided the school with new logo files to use for their internal documents and other promotional elements.
The entire project was installed during the summer holiday, around other contractors and was ready for the new academic year on time and on budget.
The impact of the new internal and external signage proved to have a very positive effect on staff, students and visitors alike. The school is now clearly visible from the road and it is proudly displaying its academic values.
The work did not preoccupy pupils unnecessarily but it did raise their interest and that interest is maintained through the visuals and other ways in which that school motto is lived and breathed at the school. This has meant that the school’s brand new motto (Achieving Excellence, Belonging Together, Challenging Mindsets) is not a lifeless strap line but words that capture what we do and how we do it.
A recent Ofsted Inspection team complimented the ABC motto across the West Building and felt it captured something very powerful and clear in six short words.
“Working with The Media Collective is as simple, honest and straightforward as business should always be. We found the team to understand us and our needs and seemed to take an active and genuine interest in what we were trying to do. They understood our brief and produced something that has since been highly and regularly praised and avoided something that looked out of place in a modern school with traditional buildings. On-site installation was completed on time and with great care and attention to details. The overall effect is outstanding.
What we and they have done is tasteful, subtle and highly effective. It has produced no negative or cynical comments at all – a major success when a school tries something a little different. It has led to praise and complements internally and from visitors. We feel the finished work is a touch of class. Without any hesitation, we would and will work with The Media Collective again.”
