Do More of The Fun Stuff

Published - Tuesday, April 19, 2016

How many times have I heard this? "Oh yes, that's something we definitely want to do but I'm struggling to find the time at the moment."  We totally understand, but maybe it doesn't have to be like that...

Life is full of really important tasks, priority meetings, and fires to put out (or at least throw a bucket of sand on and hope it dies down).  The problem is that it's usually the stuff that we really love doing, or that would bring the most joy that sinks to the bottom of the pile.  Of course, I'm talking about creative work.  Often misunderstood and often pushed to the bottom of the to-do list.

Panic stations

Do your creative projects get left until the last minute because you don't know where to start?  When we get the call from you at this point we know two things;  firstly that we can get you out of your hole, and secondly that the finished result will never be as good as had we started to think about it six weeks ago.  The worst of it is that this is often the job that should have been enjoyable for you and now you're completely stressed.  Aaaaargh!

We do the same with children who don't make a fuss.  If they are as good as gold and will wait patiently, displaying no visible problems, then there is the tendency to overlook them (ignore the panicky thoughts about Ofsted for a moment - you know what we mean).  It's not that you don't want to spend time with them, it's just that there are more urgent things to focus on.  The squeaky wheel gets the oil and all that.

Help is at hand

The good news is that we totally understand your dilemma and have a solution.  In fact, we have many solutions because we know that not every person is the same.  Our innovative way of working provides school leaders the ability to start a creative project with minimal investment in time.  Our systems don't force you to adopt our way of working, or else.  We understand that this process is meant to be enjoyable.  A 10-minute phone call can be all it takes to start a whole marketing campaign, with no paperwork or forms to get in the way (yes it does come later but that can go to someone else to deal with anyway, right?).  And we've turned around successful interior schemes off the back of a one-line email on more than one occasion.

It's easy peasy

How do we make things so easy for you?  It's simple.  We take one step at a time.  If you're waiting to start a project you're probably already sitting on enough information to get things to the next stage, where ideas are turned into designs and people can get excited about them.  The most basic brief can be all we need; tell us what needs changing and why.  Tell us your problem and spend five minutes talking about your outline thoughts.  And then sit back and watch us translate that into something that you can visualise.  Something exciting.

Oh, we have lots of ways to make your life easy.  It does make our lives a bit more complicated but everyone wins and we really don't mind.  We get more time to really get into your project and you get a better result with less stress.  And we all get to have fun along the way.

We're problem solvers

We love filling in the gaps.  It's just how we're wired.  You never need to give us all of the answers to your problem. In fact, we work best when you are vague, wooly and there are some big holes to plug.  For us, that's what design exists for: to solve problems, wrestle with communication and produce amazing solutions that make people say 'oooh'.

So write your list, go to your meeting, send those emails.  But why not bump the fun stuff up the list this week, spend a few minutes talking to us and leave us with a really juicy problem to solve.
